Shake off the winter blues at New Year.
Take a closer look at some of the some of the common plants in your local area – you may be amazed at how many are in bloom, even in the depths of winter.
The 2022 Hunt ran from Saturday 1st to Tuesday 4th January.
Now in its eleventh year, the New Year Plant Hunt is contributing to our understanding of how wild and naturalised plants are responding to changes in autumn and winter weather patterns across Britain and Ireland.
Where is it?
Anywhere and everywhere! There are Group Hunts happening across Britain & Ireland or you can go out in your local area, either alone or with friends & family.
Everyone is welcome
You don’t need to be an experienced botanist to take part. You can participate as a family, individual or there may be a organised group plant hunt near you.
Why take part?
Data from the 11 years of the New Year Plant Hunt is contributing to our understanding of how wild and naturalised plants are responding to changes in autumn and winter weather patterns.
When is the Hunt?
The 2022 Hunt will run from Saturday 1st to Tuesday 4th January: head out for a walk of up to 3 hours and see how many wild or naturalised plants (but not garden plants) you can find in bloom.
